Swimming Pool/Spa Barrier Yearly Inspection Programme
Published on Monday, 14 October 2024 at 1:51:01 PM
Notice is hereby given that the Shire of Murray is commencing its yearly swimming pool/spa inspection programme.
The Shire is bound by legislation that requires every swimming pool/spa in the Shire, including rural zoned properties, to be inspected by an authorised person, once every 4 years to ensure that safety is maintained to currently adopted Australian standards. This will also include any properties that the Shire has identified may have a swimming pool or spa.
We encourage all pool owners to check their pool barrier to ensure everything is working correctly and has been installed to comply with Australian Standards. To assist you in preparing your pool and barrier for use in the summer months, the Shire has prepared an information sheet outlining the most common issues that require attention.
A full list of pool safety requirements is available from the Department of Commerce’s Building Commission website at: www.commerce.wa.gov.au/publications/rules-pools-spas.
As the weather heats up you may be considering purchasing a portable (seasonal) pool. Portable pools are a drowning hazard for young children and the Department of Commerce have an information sheet outlining the risks and rules to consider before purchasing and using a portable (seasonal) pool.
Should you wish to contact the Swimming Pool inspector he can be contacted by phone on 0427 191 433 or via email to mailbag@murray.wa.gov.au.
