The Shire of Murray Council has adopted an updated Council Plan 2023 – 2033, reaffirming the Shire’s commitment to the community’s vision for Murray.

In June 2023, Council adopted the Shire’s ‘Plan for the Future’ following extensive community engagement. Consultation included community workshops, community surveys, seminars, an online community voicebank and the Shire’s first-ever youth summit. 1476 surveys were completed, and 66,852 words of community ideas, suggestions and recommendations were collated.

Shire President, David Bolt, said the updated Plan reflects the evolving needs of the community while staying true to the original vision.

“Last year, the community defined its vision for Murray as an outstanding place for community, lifestyle and opportunity. We remain committed to this vision in the updated Plan,” said Shire President Bolt.

“Informed by ongoing discussions, our updated Council Plan continues to represent community priorities and aligns our actions to them,” said Mr Bolt.

The plan’s five strategic focus areas remain unchanged and include - people, planet, place, prosperity and performance.

Inclusive of 186 specific actions, the plan includes a raft of projects including ways the Shire will place a particular focus on health, economic development, tourism development and environmental sustainability.

Since its initial adoption in 2023, the Shire has progressed with a range of projects listed within the Council Plan 2023 - 2033.

“In just twelve months, the Shire has opened new sports facilities and community centres, developed key environmental management strategies, expanded the CCTV network, upgraded roads, hosted international events, and launched a multi-million dollar Advocacy Strategy to name a few,” said Shire President Bolt.

“On behalf of Council, I would like to thank everyone that continues to engage with our shared vision for Murray. It has been incredibly rewarding to review our progress over the last twelve months and we look forward to ongoing conversations over the coming decade,” added Mr Bolt.

The Shire invites further input from the community and has advertised the updated Council Plan for public comment.
