The Murray Future Food Facility has taken a major step forward, with the Shire of Murray leasing a 6038 square metre area of the Food Innovation Precinct Western Australia to C4C Packaging.

In partnership with Tetra Pak, C4C Packaging will build and operate a commercial-scale food and beverage processing operation. The Murray Future Food Facility (MFFF) will offer groundbreaking, 100% recyclable carton packaging solutions for wine, ready-to-drink beverages, and plant-based beverages and dairy products.

Entering into a ten-year ground-lease agreement with the Shire of Murray provides C4C Packaging the secure tenure required to assist in building and operating this multi-million-dollar beverage packaging facility. It will be a first of its kind in Oceania.

C4C Packaging is a WA-based wine and beverage export-oriented company. With a focus on both quality and sustainability, the company provides innovative wine and packaging solutions that cater to consumers' desires and necessities.

This development will directly address challenges faced in the wine industry by reducing packaging weight seventeen times compared to the use of glass and the reduction of packaging emissions twelve times.

Shire of Murray President, David Bolt explained C4C Packaging was the preferred proponent following a competitive Expression of Interest process, which was led in collaboration with the Peel Development Commission.

“The Food Innovation Precinct Western Australia is a state-of-the-art facility fostering industry innovation to drive business growth, develop new products and exports, and transform Western Australia’s food and beverage manufacturing industry,” said Mr Bolt.

“The MFFF will enable C4C Packaging to spearhead the wine industry's evolution through eco-friendly packaging advancements. Their innovative approach makes them the perfect match to join the Food Innovation Precinct WA.

“Through this latest development, Council is pleased to complement the existing physical infrastructure that is in place at the Food Innovation Precinct which supports small businesses, to now deliver a project of commercial scale that will make an international mark,” he added.

C4C Packaging Managing Director, Hamoun Aria said the new state-of-the-art facility is designed to accommodate future expansion, with plans to scale production to 60 million units annually. It will also feature advanced warehousing capacity to meet the growing production needs.

“Our new facility, with an initial production capacity of 20 million units annually, will address critical gaps in both the wine industry and plant-based beverage production, positioning Western Australia as a key player in the global market for innovative, sustainable beverage solutions,” said Hamoun.

“With the lease secured, we are set to begin construction in Q1 2025, with operations commencing in Q1 2026. The facility will create over 100 local jobs and contribute more than $5 million annually to the local economy.

“This investment represents a significant step forward for Western Australia’s beverage manufacturing sector. We are excited to support the region’s economic growth, provide new employment opportunities, and meet the rising demand for premium, sustainable beverages both locally and internationally," Hamoun added.
