The Shire of Murray officially opened the Lovegrove Sports Pavilion on Thursday 27 June.
Shire President, David Bolt, said the new $3.8 million sports pavilion and facilities will create more sporting opportunities with a new clubhouse, expanded oval and carpark to support both cricket and hockey.
“At the Shire of Murray, our Council Plan sets five priority aspirations – one of these being ‘People’. This means we are working to deliver outcomes that enable an active and healthy community. The opening of this brand-new, high-quality sports facility in Pinjarra supports this aspiration,” said Mr Bolt.
“Sport facilities are a cornerstone of a local community. Their importance cannot be underestimated as they offer a place for people to come together and connect over shared interests; providing vast benefits to local residents’ mental and physical wellbeing.”
“The opening of Lovegrove Sports Pavilion will provide better access to sports facilities to the entire community, and in particular enable more access for women and young people interested in cricket and hockey,” he added.
The Lovegrove Sports Pavilion is suitable for cricket and hockey and creates a precinct with the Pinjarra Bowls Club just next door. It will be the new home of Pinjarra Cricket Club and Pinjarra Hockey Club.
The facility was funded through the Australia Government’s Local Roads and Community Infrastructure Program, State Government’s Department of Local Government, Sport and Cultural Industries, Lotterywest, Australian Cricket Infrastructure Fund, Alcoa and the Shire of Murray.
“To all our funding partners and major sponsors, we extend our very sincerest thanks and appreciation,” added Councillor Bolt.
