The redevelopment of the Exchange Hotel Pinjarra is near completion, with the venue on track to open in Spring.
Shire President David Bolt said the iconic venue is close to being ready for the public to enjoy.
“The Exchange Hotel is a game changer for Pinjarra. We are thrilled to see it being close to completion and the vision come to life,” said Shire President Bolt.
“The redevelopment and reactivation of the Exchange Hotel will create a regional icon and destination hospitality venue to be enjoyed by local people and visitors alike.”
Based on the redevelopment proposal, economic modelling indicates potential for the project to deliver $57.5 million dollars of new economic output in the first five years of operation to the local economy, which translates to $11.54 million dollars output annually.
It is also anticipated to bring 38,850 new visitors to the Shire of Murray, $1.57 million dollars of new visitor expenditure, 67 direct, indirect and induced full time employee jobs and demand to service approximately 20 local food enterprises.
The hotel will be operated by Karl and Janine Bullers, who have a vision to support local producers and delivering products and experiences designed to appeal to a wide audience.
Mr Bullers said, “We have worked hard to ensure we are preserving the heritage of this 130+-year-old building while creating a modern hospitality environment for people to come together, love and enjoy.”
“With the internal fit-out almost complete, it won’t be long before the public can enjoy live entertainment, and a great range of food and beverages overlooking the beautiful Murray River to create new memories and reminisce on old ones at the Exchange Hotel,” he added.
To demonstrate its commitment to restoring this much-loved site, Council committed $5.8 million dollars funding. A $2,335,257 grant was secured from the Building Better Regions Fund for the remaining redevelopment costs along with a $2 million investment from the operators.
“At the Shire, we are working to ensure our rural charm is preserved while we grow by embracing innovative urban design ideas. The redevelopment of the Exchange Hotel supports this aspiration. Once complete, the venue will celebrate local heritage and we are incredibly grateful for the support from the Australian Government to make it happen,” said Shire President Bolt.
