The Opportunity

An exciting opportunity has arisen within the Shire of Murray’s Planning and Environment team for a Coordinator of Environment Services. This role will provide a unique and interesting prospect for an environmental professional searching for a diverse and rewarding career.

Murray is located within the Southwest Australia Ecoregion, which is one of only 34 global biodiversity hotspots, determined due its rich diversity of plant life and the high level of threat it faces.

The Murray River winds through the Shire, providing a lifeblood for Australia’s 2023 Top Tiny Tourism Town (Dwellingup) and the Peel Region’s Secondary Centre (Pinjarra). State forest covers large parts of the area with magnificent, tall and ancient trees, and an abundance of native fauna and wildflowers. The Peel-Yalgorup wetland system extends over remaining parts of the Shire and has international importance.

The complexities faced with protecting this natural environment, given the projected growth for the region, is a challenge that will excite any ambitious environmental practitioner.

Reporting to the Manager Planning and Environment Services, you will have an opportunity to lead a dynamic environmental team that punches well above its weight. Some recent highlights include the adoption of the Shire’s first Sustainability Strategy and the State’s first estuarine CHRMAP.

This role covers a broad portfolio including leading key environmental projects, environmental impact assessment and on-ground conservation works.
